Possible Causes

Oversized unit for room size, Thermistor located too close to cold air discharge, Dirty filter causing freeze protection trips, Faulty temperature sensor or control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before moving sensors or cleaning.

  • Check room size: Confirm the BTU rating is appropriate for the room. An oversized unit will reach setpoint quickly and cycle often.
  • Clean filter and coils: Ensure unrestricted airflow to prevent evaporator icing and protective shutdowns.
  • Sensor placement: Locate the room thermistor behind the front grille. If it is directly in the cold air stream, reposition it slightly away so it senses room air, not discharge air.
  • Adjust setpoint: Set the temperature a bit higher to reduce cycling.
  • Sensor/control issues: If cycling remains extreme, the thermistor or control board may be faulty and should be tested and replaced as needed.
