Possible Causes

Failed outdoor NTC sensor, Sensor wiring damaged by weather or rodents, Loose sensor connector on outdoor PCB, Sensor not properly attached to condenser coil

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate power at the outdoor disconnect or breaker. Outdoor units contain high voltage and moving parts.

Steps:

  • Access outdoor PCB: Remove the service panel on the outdoor unit to expose the control board and wiring.
  • Locate T2 sensor: Follow the thin two-core cable from the condenser coil area to the PCB. The sensor is usually strapped or clipped to the condenser coil tubing.
  • Inspect sensor and wiring: Check for cracked insulation, corrosion, or a sensor that has fallen off the coil. Re-secure the sensor firmly to the coil with the original clip or metal strap.
  • Measure resistance: Disconnect the sensor from the PCB and measure resistance at ambient temperature. Compare to Blaupunkt’s NTC chart; infinite or shorted readings indicate failure.
  • Replace if needed: Install a new Blaupunkt outdoor condenser NTC sensor of the same type. Route the cable away from sharp metal edges and fan blades.
  • Restore power and test: After reassembly, turn power back on and run the unit. The E3 code should clear if the sensor is functioning.
