Possible Causes
Failed suction thermistor, Loose sensor on suction line, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty outdoor control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut off power to the outdoor unit.
Steps:
- 1. Locate sensor: Find the suction line temperature sensor on the large insulated copper line entering the compressor or cabinet.
- 2. Verify contact: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached under the insulation and making good contact with the copper line. Re-secure with a clamp or tie-wrap and re-insulate.
- 3. Inspect wiring: Check for abrasion where the sensor wires pass through cabinet openings. Repair any damaged insulation and secure with grommets or tape.
- 4. Reset and test: Restore power and run the system. If code 56 persists, the sensor or control board input may be defective.
Note: Sensor replacement and verification of proper superheat/subcooling should be done by a qualified technician.
