Possible Causes
Low refrigerant charge, Blocked condenser coil, Failed condenser fan motor, Overload from high ambient temperature
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the outdoor unit and allow the compressor to cool for at least 30–60 minutes.
Steps:
- 1. Clean condenser coil: Remove debris and rinse the coil from inside out with a garden hose after disconnecting power and removing the top grille if necessary.
- 2. Check fan operation: After cooling and cleaning, restore power and call for cooling. Confirm the condenser fan starts immediately and runs continuously. If not, inspect the fan motor and capacitor.
- 3. Ensure proper airflow: Maintain at least 24 inches of clearance around the unit and 60 inches above. Remove obstructions and trim vegetation.
- 4. Monitor operation: If code 58 recurs, there may be a refrigerant or internal compressor issue that requires professional diagnosis.
Warning: Do not attempt to add refrigerant or open the system yourself; this is regulated work.
