Ductwork Expansion/Contraction Noise
Indoor Bryant system produces loud banging or booming noises when starting or stopping cooling.

Possible Causes
Undersized or thin ductwork, High static pressure from closed vents or dirty filter, Loose duct joints, Improperly supported ducts
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Normal precautions; most work is on ductwork, not live electrical parts.
Steps:
- 1. Open vents: Ensure most supply registers are open to reduce static pressure.
- 2. Replace filter: A dirty filter increases static pressure and duct noise. Install a clean filter of appropriate MERV rating.
- 3. Inspect accessible ducts: In attic or basement, look for ducts that flex or pop when the blower starts. Add additional hangers or supports as needed.
- 4. Seal loose joints: Use UL-listed foil tape or mastic to seal loose duct joints that may be popping.
Note: Persistent noise may require duct redesign by an HVAC contractor.
