Possible Causes

Faulty indoor evaporator temperature sensor (T1), Poor airflow due to clogged Camry indoor air filter, Evaporator coil heavily clogged with dust, Low refrigerant charge causing coil icing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the unit and allow any ice on the indoor coil to melt completely before inspection.

  • 1. Clean or replace filters: Open the Camry indoor front panel, remove the air filters, and wash them with mild detergent and water. Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling.
  • 2. Inspect evaporator coil: With filters removed, visually inspect the aluminum fins of the evaporator. If clogged, use a soft brush and a vacuum or a non-corrosive coil cleaner to remove dust. Do not bend the fins.
  • 3. Check T1 sensor position: Locate the evaporator temperature sensor clipped to the coil. Ensure it is firmly attached and making good contact with the coil surface.
  • 4. Test the sensor (qualified persons): Disconnect the sensor from the PCB and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare with Camry’s service chart for the specific NTC value. Replace if out of range or open/shorted.
  • 5. Restart and monitor: After cleaning and reassembly, restore power and run the unit in COOL mode. If E2 reappears and the coil ices up quickly, low refrigerant or expansion device issues may be present.

Note: Refrigerant diagnosis and charging must be performed by a licensed refrigeration technician familiar with Camry systems.
