Carrier air conditioner runs but does not cool the room effectively
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Dirty indoor air filter, Dirty evaporator or condenser coil, Low refrigerant charge, Undersized unit for room load
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power before cleaning coils or opening panels.
- Step 1 – Clean or replace filter: Remove the indoor filter and wash or replace it according to Carrier's instructions.
- Step 2 – Clean indoor coil: Gently vacuum or brush dust from the evaporator coil. Use a foaming coil cleaner if heavily soiled.
- Step 3 – Clean outdoor coil: Rinse the condenser coil with a garden hose from inside out.
- Step 4 – Check room conditions: Close windows and doors, reduce heat sources (ovens, direct sun), and ensure all supply registers are open.
- Step 5 – Technician check: If cooling is still poor, have a Carrier technician check refrigerant charge and system sizing.
