Possible Causes
Failed indoor fan motor, Faulty fan capacitor (for PSC motors), Blower relay failure on PCB, Obstructed blower wheel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power at the breaker before opening the indoor unit.
- Step 1 – Check fan setting: Ensure the fan mode is set to AUTO or ON and not OFF.
- Step 2 – Listen for motor: When calling for cooling, listen for any humming from the indoor unit. A hum without rotation suggests a bad capacitor or stuck motor.
- Step 3 – Inspect blower: Remove the indoor cover and check the blower wheel for obstructions.
- Step 4 – Capacitor (if applicable): For ducted systems with PSC motors, a technician can test and replace the blower capacitor.
- Step 5 – Replace motor: If the motor is seized or electrically open, it must be replaced with a Carrier-compatible blower motor.
