Possible Causes
Failed DC outdoor fan motor, Faulty fan motor hall sensor, Loose or burnt fan connector, Outdoor PCB fan driver failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power at the outdoor disconnect and breaker.
- Step 1 – Visual check: Inspect the outdoor fan blades for damage or obstructions (sticks, leaves). Remove any debris.
- Step 2 – Spin test: With power OFF, spin the fan blade by hand. It should rotate freely. If stiff or grinding, the motor bearings are likely failing.
- Step 3 – Check wiring: Remove the control panel cover and locate the fan motor connector on the PCB. Reseat the connector and inspect for burnt pins.
- Step 4 – Test operation: Restore power and call for cooling. If the compressor runs but the fan does not, shut down to avoid damage.
- Step 5 – Replace motor: Replace the outdoor fan motor with a Carrier-compatible DC motor assembly. Ensure correct wiring and rotation direction.
- Step 6 – PCB evaluation: If a new motor does not clear F6, the outdoor PCB may be defective and should be replaced by a technician.
