Possible Causes
Dirty condenser coil, Outdoor fan not running or running slowly, Low refrigerant charge, Blocked airflow around outdoor unit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power at the outdoor disconnect before cleaning or servicing.
- Step 1 – Clear obstructions: Ensure at least 2–3 feet of clearance around the outdoor unit. Remove leaves, covers, or objects blocking airflow.
- Step 2 – Clean condenser coil: Rinse the coil with a garden hose from inside out. Avoid high pressure that can bend fins.
- Step 3 – Check outdoor fan: Confirm the fan starts and runs at normal speed when cooling is demanded. If not, see fan motor fault procedures.
- Step 4 – Shade and ventilation: If the unit is in direct sun or a confined space, consider adding shade or improving ventilation.
- Step 5 – Technician service: If P2 persists, a technician should check refrigerant charge and compressor discharge temperature.
