Possible Causes
Defective defrost sensor, Defrost cycle not initiating due to PCB fault, Low refrigerant charge, Outdoor fan issues causing coil to ice
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power before working on the outdoor unit.
- Step 1 – Inspect coil: Check for heavy ice buildup on the outdoor coil. If present, turn OFF the system and allow it to thaw completely.
- Step 2 – Clean coil: After thawing, clean the coil to improve heat transfer.
- Step 3 – Check fan operation: Ensure the outdoor fan runs properly in heating mode.
- Step 4 – Sensor and PCB: If icing recurs and P5 persists, a technician should test the defrost sensor, reversing valve, and defrost control on the PCB.
