Possible Causes
Blocked outdoor condenser coil, Failed outdoor condenser fan motor, Overcharged refrigerant in Chigo system, Clogged capillary tube or expansion device
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting the outdoor unit. Do not attempt to open the refrigerant circuit yourself; this requires licensed equipment and training.
- Step 1 – Clean the condenser coil: Remove leaves and debris from around the outdoor unit. Use a soft brush or low-pressure water to clean the condenser fins from the inside out. Do not bend the fins.
- Step 2 – Check outdoor fan operation: Restore power and run the AC. Observe the outdoor fan. If the compressor hums but the fan does not spin, the outdoor fan motor or its capacitor may be faulty.
- Step 3 – Inspect fan capacitor: With power off and capacitor discharged, visually inspect the outdoor fan capacitor on the outdoor PCB or in the control box. A bulged or leaking capacitor should be replaced with the same µF rating and voltage.
- Step 4 – Call a professional for refrigerant issues: If the coil is clean and the fan runs but E1 persists, the system may be overcharged or have a restriction. A certified technician must connect gauges, verify pressures, and correct the refrigerant charge.
