Possible Causes

Clogged condensate drain pipe on Chigo indoor unit, Blocked drain pan outlet, Faulty float switch or water level sensor, Corrupted EEPROM on indoor PCB (alternate meaning on some models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before working near water and electrical components.

  • Step 1 – Check for drain blockage: Locate the condensate drain hose from the indoor unit. Ensure it is not kinked or elevated above the drain outlet. Blow through the hose or use a wet/dry vacuum at the end to clear clogs.
  • Step 2 – Clean drain pan: Remove the front cover and access the drain pan under the evaporator coil. Remove sludge, algae, and debris. Flush with a mild bleach solution if allowed by the manual.
  • Step 3 – Inspect float switch (if present): Some Chigo cassettes and ducted units have a float switch. Check that it moves freely and that its wiring is intact. Replace the drain float switch if it is stuck or defective.
  • Step 4 – If E9 is EEPROM-related: If the manual states E9 is an EEPROM error, perform a power reset. If the error persists, the indoor main PCB may need replacement.
