Possible Causes
Clogged condensate drain line on Coleman air handler, Blocked drain pan outlet, Improperly sloped drain line, Cracked primary drain pan
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF power to the air handler. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
- Locate drain line: Find the PVC drain exiting the Coleman air handler or coil cabinet.
- Clear blockage: Use a wet/dry vacuum on the outside drain termination to suck out algae and debris. Alternatively, use a drain cleaning tool or compressed air from the indoor side.
- Flush line: Pour a mixture of warm water and a small amount of mild detergent or vinegar into the drain pan to flush the line.
- Inspect drain pan: Remove the access panel and inspect the primary drain pan for cracks or rust-through. Replace the pan if damaged.
- Check slope: Ensure the drain line slopes continuously downward away from the unit.
Note: Consider installing a float switch in the drain line to shut off the system before overflow occurs.
