Possible Causes
Failed condenser fan motor, Open or weak fan capacitor, Obstructed fan blade, Loose wiring at motor or capacitor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect shore power and ensure the roof is dry and safe to walk on. Use fall protection where appropriate.
- Visual inspection: Remove the rooftop shroud from the Coleman-Mach unit. Check that the condenser fan blade is intact and not rubbing against the shroud or coil.
- Spin test: With power OFF, spin the condenser fan blade by hand. It should move freely. If stiff, the motor bearings may be failing.
- Check capacitor: Locate and test the fan or dual run capacitor as described earlier. Replace if out of tolerance.
- Inspect wiring: Verify all motor leads are firmly connected and not burnt. Repair or replace any damaged connectors.
- Test operation: Restore power and run the AC. If the fan still fails to start or F4 returns, replace the condenser fan motor with a Coleman-Mach approved motor.
Warning: Never run the compressor without the condenser fan operating; this can quickly damage the compressor.
