Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power to the air handler at the breaker. Confirm blower is not running before working.
Steps:
- Access blower compartment: Remove the blower access panel on the Comfortmaker air handler or fan coil.
- Inspect motor and wheel: Check for seized blower wheel, foreign objects, or heavy dust buildup that could stall the motor. Clean as needed.
- Check wiring harness: Ensure the multi-pin connector from the ECM motor to the control board is fully seated and not corroded. For PSC motors, inspect capacitor connections.
- Test capacitor (PSC only): Discharge and remove the blower capacitor, then test with a meter. Replace if out of tolerance.
- Check motor rotation by hand: Spin the blower wheel; it should turn freely without grinding. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be failing.
- Power test: With panels in place and power restored, call for cooling and observe if the motor attempts to start. If E7 returns and motor does not run, replacement is likely needed.
Note: Replacing an ECM blower motor requires matching Comfortmaker/ICP part numbers and programming in some models. This is best handled by a professional.
