Possible Causes
Tripped outdoor disconnect or breaker, Failed contactor coil or contacts, Open low-pressure or high-pressure safety switch, Failed compressor or fan capacitor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the disconnect before opening the condenser panel.
Steps:
- Check breaker and disconnect: Reset tripped breaker once. Ensure disconnect is fully inserted.
- Listen for contactor click: With thermostat calling for cooling, you should hear a click at the outdoor unit. No click suggests a control or contactor coil issue.
- Inspect contactor: Look for burned or pitted contacts. Replace if badly worn.
- Test capacitor: With power off and discharged, test the dual run capacitor (for compressor and fan). Replace if out of tolerance.
- Check safety switches: Some Comfortmaker units have manual reset high-pressure switches; reset if tripped and investigate cause.
Technician required: If power and controls are good but compressor does not start, further diagnosis is needed.
