Possible Causes

Failed indoor blower motor, Blower run capacitor open (PSC motor), Faulty indoor fan relay on control board, Open blower motor thermal overload

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power to the air handler at the breaker before opening panels.

Steps:

  • Check thermostat fan setting: Set to ON and COOL to command blower operation.
  • Listen for motor: If you hear humming but no rotation, the motor or capacitor may be failing.
  • Inspect capacitor (PSC): Discharge and test the blower capacitor; replace if out of spec.
  • Spin blower wheel by hand: If stiff or seized, the motor bearings are likely bad and the motor should be replaced.
  • Check board fan relay: Look for burned relay contacts on the Comfortmaker control board; if present, board replacement is needed.

Call a technician: Motor replacement and wiring should be done by a qualified HVAC technician.
