Possible Causes

Open or shorted evaporator thermistor, Thermistor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor wiring, Failed main PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before opening the cabinet. Sharp metal edges are common around the coil area; wear cut-resistant gloves.

Steps:

  • 1. Reset attempt: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then power back on. If E2 returns immediately, proceed with inspection.
  • 2. Access evaporator area: Remove the front cover and air filter. Unscrew and remove the inner plastic shroud to expose the evaporator coil (the cold coil at the front/top).
  • 3. Locate the evaporator thermistor: It is usually clipped or taped to the evaporator tubing or fins, with two wires leading back to the PCB.
  • 4. Inspect mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil surface. If it has fallen off, reattach it using the original clip or aluminum tape so it senses coil temperature correctly.
  • 5. Check wiring and connector: Follow the wires back to the main board. Look for cuts, chafing, or corrosion. Reseat the connector on the PCB.
  • 6. Measure resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to the ambient sensor if they are the same part type, or to service documentation. Replace if open/shorted or far out of expected range.
  • 7. Replace parts as needed: If the thermistor is defective, install a Danby-compatible evaporator sensor. If the sensor is good but E2 persists, the main control board is likely faulty and should be replaced.
