Possible Causes
Blocked indoor blower wheel, Failed DC fan motor or Hall sensor, Loose fan motor connector, Faulty main PCB fan driver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Blower wheels have sharp edges; wear gloves.
Steps:
- 1. Check for obstructions: Remove the front grille and filter. Look into the blower area for plastic bags, insulation, or debris blocking the fan. Remove any obstructions.
- 2. Spin test: Gently spin the blower wheel by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be failing.
- 3. Inspect wiring: Locate the indoor fan motor connector on the PCB. Ensure it is fully seated and wires are not damaged.
- 4. Voltage test (advanced): With the unit powered and calling for fan operation (fan-only mode), carefully measure DC voltage at the fan connector according to the service manual. If no voltage is present, suspect the main PCB. If voltage is present but the fan does not run, the motor is likely defective.
- 5. Replace motor if needed: Remove the screws securing the blower housing, slide out the blower and motor assembly, and transfer the blower wheel to the new Danby-compatible indoor fan motor. Reinstall and reconnect wiring.
