Possible Causes

Blocked condenser airflow (dirty filter or coil), Fan motor not running at full speed, Unit installed too close to walls or obstructions, Refrigerant system overpressure or sensor error

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off and unplug the unit. Allow hot components to cool before touching.

Steps:

  • 1. Improve airflow: Ensure the rear and sides of the unit have the clearance specified in the Danby manual (typically at least 12–20 inches). Move furniture or curtains away from vents.
  • 2. Clean air filter: Remove and wash the air filter with mild soap and water. Let it dry completely before reinstalling.
  • 3. Clean condenser coil: Remove the rear cover to expose the condenser coil. Use a soft brush or vacuum with a brush attachment to remove dust and lint from the fins. Do not bend the fins.
  • 4. Check fan operation: With the unit reassembled and powered, observe the outdoor/condenser fan. It should start promptly and run at a steady speed. If it hesitates, runs slowly, or stops, the fan motor or capacitor may be failing and should be replaced.
  • 5. Ambient conditions: If the room or outdoor temperature is extremely high, the unit may trip high-temperature protection more easily. Ensure adequate ventilation and avoid direct sun on the unit if possible.
  • 6. Persistent E8: If E8 recurs after cleaning and verifying fan operation, there may be a refrigerant or sensor issue requiring professional service.
