Evaporator Icing / Low Airflow or Low Charge
Evaporator coil freezes over with ice, reducing airflow and cooling.

Possible Causes
Dirty air filter restricting airflow, Fan motor not running at full speed, Low refrigerant charge, Thermistor misreading causing extended run
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before defrosting. Do not chip ice with sharp objects; you can puncture the coil.
Steps:
- 1. Thaw the coil: Turn the unit off and allow the ice to melt naturally, or run in FAN-ONLY mode to speed thawing. Place towels to catch water.
- 2. Clean filter and coil: Wash the filter and clean the evaporator coil to restore airflow.
- 3. Check fan operation: Ensure the indoor fan runs continuously in COOL mode and at the selected speed. Replace the fan motor if it is slow or intermittent.
- 4. Thermostat setting: Avoid setting the temperature extremely low in cool, humid conditions, which can promote icing.
- 5. Refrigerant check: If icing recurs with clean filters and good airflow, a low refrigerant charge or metering issue may be present. This requires professional diagnosis.
