Possible Causes
Ambient thermistor located too close to cold discharge, Dirty filter causing coil freeze, Oversized unit for small room, Faulty thermistor or control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Steps:
- 1. Verify installation: Ensure the unit is sized appropriately for the room. An oversized unit will short cycle.
- 2. Clean filter and coil: Restricted airflow can cause the evaporator to freeze and trigger protection. Clean the filter and evaporator coil thoroughly.
- 3. Check sensor location: Locate the ambient thermistor and ensure it is near the air intake, not directly in the cold air stream. Reposition if necessary using clips or tape.
- 4. Test sensor: Measure thermistor resistance and compare to expected values. Replace if readings are unstable or out of range.
- 5. Control board: If sensor is good and placement correct, but short cycling persists, the main PCB thermostat logic may be faulty and require replacement.
