Possible Causes
Loose fan blade or blower wheel, Debris in blower housing, Worn fan motor bearings, Loose compressor mounting or panel screws
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before touching moving parts. Beware of sharp metal edges.
Steps:
- 1. Identify noise source: Run the unit briefly with covers on and listen to locate whether the noise is from the front (indoor fan), rear (condenser fan), or base (compressor). Then unplug.
- 2. Check indoor blower: Remove front grille and filter. Inspect the blower wheel for foreign objects and ensure it is firmly attached to the motor shaft. Tighten set screws if present.
- 3. Check outdoor fan: Remove rear cover and inspect the condenser fan blade. Tighten the hub on the motor shaft and remove any debris.
- 4. Tighten hardware: Tighten all accessible mounting screws on the compressor, fan motors, and cabinet panels.
- 5. Motor bearings: If the noise is a persistent grinding or squeal from a fan motor, replace the affected Danby fan motor assembly.
