Possible Causes

Failed PSC or ECM blower motor, Faulty blower run capacitor (PSC), Loose blower wheel on shaft, Failed indoor fan relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power to the air handler/furnace at the breaker and service switch.

  • Step 1 – Thermostat fan test: Set thermostat fan to ON. If no airflow, the blower or its controls are suspect.
  • Step 2 – Inspect blower compartment: Remove access panel and check that the blower wheel is intact and not jammed by insulation or debris.
  • Step 3 – Check capacitor (PSC motors): Locate the blower capacitor and look for bulging or leaks. Replace with the same µF rating and voltage if defective.
  • Step 4 – Motor test: Try spinning the blower wheel by hand. If stiff or seized, the motor must be replaced.
  • Step 5 – Board relay: If motor and capacitor are good but no power is sent to the motor, the indoor control board fan relay may have failed and require replacement.
