Possible Causes
Low refrigerant charge, Dirty air filter restricting airflow, Evaporator fan motor running slow or not at full speed, Faulty evaporator temperature sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning or opening panels.
- 1. Clean filters and grilles: Remove and wash the air filters. Vacuum the front intake and outlet grilles. Poor airflow is the most common cause of coil freeze.
- 2. Check fan operation: Turn the unit to FAN mode and listen for smooth, strong airflow. If the fan is noisy, slow, or intermittent, the fan motor or capacitor may be failing.
- 3. Allow full defrost: Turn the unit OFF and leave it unplugged for at least 1–2 hours to ensure all ice melts. Restart in FAN mode for 15 minutes before switching back to COOL.
- 4. Inspect room conditions: Very low humidity or very low load can sometimes cause overcooling. Increase the set temperature slightly and avoid running the unit on maximum cooling continuously in a small, closed room.
- 5. Refrigerant and sensor (technician-level): If LtE recurs quickly after cleaning and defrosting, a technician should check refrigerant pressures and verify the evaporator NTC sensor readings. Low charge or a misreading sensor can trigger this error.
