Possible Causes
Failed compressor start capacitor, Faulty compressor relay on PCB, Open compressor winding, Low or locked rotor condition
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and wait several minutes before accessing electrical components.
- 1. Listen for compressor: When switching to COOL, listen for a distinct click and a deeper humming sound. If you only hear the fan, the compressor may not be starting.
- 2. Check mode and temperature: Ensure the set temperature is at least 2–3°C below room temperature and the mode is COOL, not FAN or DRY.
- 3. Inspect capacitor (advanced): Access the compressor compartment and locate the start/run capacitor. Look for bulging, leaking, or burnt smell. Replace with an identical microfarad (µF) rating if defective.
- 4. Relay and wiring: Check the compressor relay on the PCB and wiring to the compressor for loose or burnt connections.
- 5. Technician testing: If a new capacitor does not solve the issue, a technician should test compressor windings and current draw. A failed compressor usually requires professional replacement.
