Possible Causes
Shorted compressor windings, Seized compressor, Faulty inverter module (on inverter models), Low supply voltage or loose power connections, Defective current sensing circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: This fault involves high voltage and high current. Do not attempt to open the compressor or inverter module yourself.
Basic checks:
- Verify supply voltage: Use a multimeter to confirm the supply voltage at the indoor and outdoor units matches the rating plate (within ±10%). Low voltage can trigger E5.
- Inspect terminals: With power off, tighten all terminal screws at the indoor and outdoor connection blocks. Look for signs of overheating (discolored insulation, burnt smell).
- Reset power: Turn off the breaker for 10 minutes, then restore power and test. If E5 returns immediately, internal components are likely faulty.
Technician-only actions:
- Measure compressor winding resistance and insulation resistance.
- Test the inverter power module and current sensor on the outdoor PCB.
- Replace the compressor or outdoor PCB as required.
Due to the risk of electric shock and fire, E5 faults should be handled by a qualified Electrolux technician.
