Possible Causes
Failed run capacitor, Open compressor winding, Failed compressor contactor, Loose compressor wiring terminals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the disconnect and verify with a meter before touching components.
- Inspect capacitor: Locate the dual run capacitor in the condenser. If bulged or leaking, replace with the same µF and voltage rating.
- Check wiring: Ensure all compressor terminals (C, R, S) are firmly connected and not burnt.
- Test contactor: Confirm the contactor contacts are not pitted or burned. Replace if they are not making good contact.
- Measure compressor resistance: With wires removed and power off, measure resistance between compressor terminals and to ground. A short to ground or open winding indicates a failed compressor.
