Possible Causes
Blocked air filter or coil causing high static pressure, failing indoor fan motor drawing excessive current, blower wheel imbalance, defective indoor PCB fan driver
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit or switch off the breaker before cleaning or servicing.
Steps to resolve E8:
- Clean filter: Remove and wash the air filter with mild soap and water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
- Clean indoor coil: With the front cover removed, inspect the evaporator coil. If it is clogged with dust or lint, carefully clean it with a soft brush or vacuum and, if needed, a non-rinse coil cleaner.
- Check blower wheel: Inspect the blower wheel for heavy dirt buildup or broken fins. Clean and, if damaged, replace the wheel.
- Check motor temperature: After running briefly, if accessible, feel near the motor housing (do not touch moving parts). Excessive heat may indicate a failing motor.
- Replace motor if necessary: If E8 recurs after cleaning and the motor is noisy, slow, or overheating, replace the indoor fan motor assembly.
- PCB check: If a new motor still triggers E8, the indoor PCB may be misreading current or overdriving the motor and may need replacement.
Tip: Regular filter and coil cleaning greatly reduces the chance of E8 errors.
