Possible Causes

Drifted ambient thermistor, sensor relocated away from return air, sensor touching cold surface, control board calibration fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.

Steps to address F2:

  • Verify sensor placement: Remove the front grille and locate the room sensor. It should be in the return air stream, not touching the evaporator coil or metal chassis.
  • Reposition sensor: If the sensor is touching a cold surface or is buried in insulation, reposition it to free air in the return path using the original clip or bracket.
  • Compare temperature: Use a separate room thermometer to compare actual room temperature to the unit’s display. Large discrepancies suggest a bad sensor.
  • Replace sensor: If the sensor is physically damaged or readings are far off, install a new Friedrich ambient thermistor.
  • Board issue: If a new sensor does not correct the error or temperature inaccuracy, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and require replacement.
