Possible Causes
Outdoor coil in defrost mode, low outdoor temperature, indoor coil not yet warm enough, sensor delay logic
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No immediate repair is usually required; this is often a normal protection mode.
Steps:
- Wait for cycle: H1 typically indicates the unit is in defrost or is preventing cold air blow. Allow 5–15 minutes for the cycle to complete.
- Check outdoor coil: If the outdoor coil is heavily frosted or iced, ensure airflow is not blocked by snow, leaves, or debris. Clear obstructions.
- Verify filters and coils: Clean indoor filters and coils to ensure proper airflow, which helps reduce defrost frequency.
- Sensor issues: If H1 remains indefinitely and the unit never heats, there may be a sensor or control fault; see E3/F3 procedures for coil sensors.
