Possible Causes
Internal condensate tank full, blocked drain hose, float switch stuck, kinked external drain line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn the unit OFF and unplug it before draining water.
Steps to clear P1:
- Locate drain plug: On Friedrich portable air conditioners, find the lower drain plug or cap at the back or bottom of the unit.
- Prepare container: Place a shallow pan or tray under the drain outlet to catch water.
- Drain water: Remove the plug and allow all water to drain. Tilt the unit slightly if needed to fully empty the tank.
- Check float switch: If accessible, inspect the float mechanism inside the tank area to ensure it moves freely and is not stuck by debris or scale.
- Inspect drain hose (if used): If you use a continuous drain hose, check for kinks, clogs, or elevation above the unit that could prevent drainage. Clear or reroute as needed.
- Reinstall plug: Replace the drain plug securely, restore power, and restart the unit. P1 should clear once the float switch drops.
