Possible Causes
Loose mounting screws, misaligned chassis in sleeve, debris in blower or fan, worn fan motor bearings, unbalanced fan blade
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn OFF and unplug the unit before tightening or removing parts.
Steps:
- Tighten mounting hardware: Check all screws securing the chassis to the sleeve or window frame and tighten as needed.
- Check front grille: Ensure the front panel is properly latched and not vibrating against the chassis.
- Inspect blower and fan: Remove the front cover and look for foreign objects in the indoor blower wheel. Access the outdoor fan and check for debris or bent blades.
- Balance and replace: If the fan blade is bent or the blower wheel is cracked, replace with the correct Friedrich part.
- Motor bearings: If noise is a grinding or squealing sound that changes with speed, the fan motor bearings may be worn and the motor should be replaced.
