Possible Causes

High ambient temperature, blocked condenser airflow, dirty condenser coil, failing condenser fan motor, inaccurate temperature sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before cleaning or accessing internal parts.

Steps:

  • 1. Improve ventilation: Ensure the rear of the window unit or the exhaust of the portable unit is not blocked by curtains, blinds, or exterior obstructions.
  • 2. Clean condenser coil: Remove the outer cover and gently brush or vacuum dirt from the condenser fins. Straighten bent fins with a fin comb.
  • 3. Check condenser fan: Verify that the outdoor fan spins freely by hand (with power off) and runs at full speed when the unit is on. Replace the fan motor or capacitor if weak or stalled.
  • 4. Sensor check: If HS appears even in moderate temperatures with good airflow, test the relevant temperature sensor and replace if out of spec.
