Possible Causes

Clogged condensate drain channel, unit not tilted properly toward outside, blocked drain hole, cracked drain pan

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before tilting or removing it from the window. Water may spill; protect flooring.

Steps:

  • 1. Check installation tilt: Window units must be slightly tilted downward toward the outside so water flows out. Adjust the mounting so the rear is lower than the front by about 1/4–1/2 inch.
  • 2. Clear drain channel: Remove the front cover and inspect the condensate trough under the evaporator coil. Use a small brush or pipe cleaner to remove debris from the drain hole leading to the rear pan.
  • 3. Clean rear pan: From outside, inspect the rear drain pan for algae, dirt, or insect nests blocking the outlet. Clean thoroughly.
  • 4. Inspect for cracks: If the plastic drain pan is cracked, it may need to be sealed with an appropriate waterproof epoxy or replaced if available as a part.
