Internal Condensate Tank Full / Water Level Protection
GE portable air conditioner displays P1 and stops cooling, often with water in the base

Possible Causes
Internal condensate tank full, Blocked condensate drain port or hose, Faulty float switch or water level sensor, Unit not level causing poor drainage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn the unit off and unplug it. Water may spill when moving the unit.
Steps:
- Drain the tank: Move the portable AC to a location where water can be drained safely. Remove the lower drain cap/plug at the back or bottom and allow water to drain into a shallow pan or floor drain.
- Clear blockage: Check the drain port for debris or sludge. Use a small brush or pipe cleaner to clear it.
- Check drain hose (if used): Ensure any attached drain hose is not kinked, elevated too high, or blocked. Flush with water if needed.
- Level the unit: Confirm the AC is on a level surface so water flows correctly to the tank or drain.
- Float switch inspection: Remove the rear panel (if accessible) and locate the float or water level sensor. Ensure it moves freely and is not stuck by dirt or scale. Clean gently.
- Replace sensor: If P1 persists even when empty and the float is free, replace the water level sensor or float switch assembly.
