GE
Remote Control / IR Receiver Failure
GE air conditioner display and buttons work, but unit does not respond to remote control
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Dead or weak batteries in remote, Obstructed line of sight to IR receiver, Failed IR receiver on control panel, Faulty remote transmitter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Steps:
- Replace batteries: Install fresh, correct-type batteries in the GE remote and ensure they are oriented properly.
- Check line of sight: Aim the remote directly at the control panel from within the recommended distance. Remove any obstructions.
- Test remote: Point the remote at a smartphone camera; pressing buttons should show a flashing light on the camera screen. If not, the remote is likely bad and should be replaced.
- IR receiver: If the remote works but the unit does not respond, the IR receiver on the control panel may have failed. Replace the display/control panel assembly that includes the IR sensor.
