Possible Causes
Dirty or blocked indoor air filter, Evaporator coil heavily clogged, Indoor fan motor not running or running too slowly, Low refrigerant charge causing coil icing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the unit at the remote and breaker before opening the indoor cover. Avoid touching the coil fins with bare hands—they are sharp.
- Step 1 – Clean or replace filters: Open the front panel of the Gree indoor unit, slide out the air filters, and wash them with mild soap and water. Let them dry completely before reinstalling. Dirty filters are the most common cause of E2.
- Step 2 – Check indoor fan operation: With the cover closed and filters reinstalled, power the unit ON and set the fan speed to HIGH. Confirm strong airflow from the louvers. If airflow is weak or the fan does not spin, the indoor fan motor or fan capacitor may be failing.
- Step 3 – Inspect evaporator coil for ice: If accessible, look at the coil behind the filters. If you see ice buildup, turn the unit OFF and let it thaw completely (this may take several hours). Do not chip ice with tools.
- Step 4 – Restart and monitor: After thawing and cleaning, restart in COOL mode with a moderate set temperature (e.g., 24°C/75°F). If E2 returns quickly, low refrigerant or a faulty evaporator temperature sensor is likely.
- Step 5 – Call a technician if unresolved: A professional should check refrigerant charge, evaporator sensor resistance, and indoor fan motor performance. Do not attempt to add refrigerant yourself.
