Possible Causes

Refrigerant leak in indoor or outdoor coil, Blocked expansion valve or capillary tube, Severely clogged air filter causing evaporator freeze and low suction pressure, Faulty low-pressure switch (on some Gree models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not attempt to open refrigerant lines or braze connections. Low pressure usually indicates a leak that must be handled by a licensed technician.

  • Step 1 – Basic reset: Turn OFF the system at the remote and breaker for 10 minutes, then restart. If E3 reappears quickly, proceed to inspection.
  • Step 2 – Check filters and indoor airflow: Clean indoor filters and ensure all supply louvers are open. Restricted airflow can cause coil freeze and low suction pressure.
  • Step 3 – Look for signs of oil or staining: With power OFF, inspect around flare connections, service valves, and coil joints on both indoor and outdoor units. Oily residue or greenish stains often indicate a refrigerant leak.
  • Step 4 – Observe operation: If the unit runs only briefly before E3, and you hear hissing or gurgling, the system may be very low on refrigerant.
  • Step 5 – Call a certified HVAC technician: A technician must locate and repair leaks, evacuate the system, and recharge with the correct type and weight of refrigerant specified on the Gree nameplate. They may also test/replace the low-pressure switch if fitted.
