Possible Causes

Indoor fan motor bearings seized or tight, Foreign object (plastic, insulation) stuck in blower wheel, Faulty indoor fan motor, Faulty indoor fan driver circuit on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker before opening the indoor unit. The fan blades can start unexpectedly if power is present.

  • Step 1 – Check for obstructions: Open the front panel and remove filters. Look into the blower wheel area for plastic bags, insulation, or other debris. Remove any obstruction carefully.
  • Step 2 – Spin the blower by hand: With power OFF, gently rotate the blower wheel. It should spin freely without grinding. If it is stiff or jammed, the motor bearings may be failing.
  • Step 3 – Clean dust buildup: Heavy dust on the blower can unbalance it and overload the motor. Use a soft brush and vacuum to clean accessible areas.
  • Step 4 – Test operation: Restore power and run the unit on FAN ONLY at different speeds. If E8 reappears or the fan does not reach full speed, the motor or PCB driver is likely defective.
  • Step 5 – Replace components as needed: A technician can test motor windings and replace the indoor fan motor or indoor PCB module.
