Possible Causes
Clogged condensate drain line, Blocked drain pan outlet, Faulty float switch in indoor unit, Failed internal condensate pump (if equipped)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the unit and place towels or a container under the indoor unit to catch any water. Be cautious of dripping water near electrical components.
- Step 1 – Inspect drain line: Locate the PVC or flexible drain hose exiting the indoor unit. Check for kinks, sags filled with water, or visible blockages at the outlet.
- Step 2 – Clear the drain: Use a wet/dry vacuum at the drain outlet to suck out sludge and algae. Alternatively, gently blow compressed air from the outlet toward the unit. Do not use excessive pressure.
- Step 3 – Clean drain pan: If accessible, remove the front cover and carefully clean the drain pan with a cloth and mild detergent to remove slime and debris.
- Step 4 – Check float switch or pump: Some Gree cassettes and ducted units have a float switch or pump. Ensure the float moves freely and is not stuck in the up position. If the pump does not run when the pan fills, it may need replacement.
- Step 5 – Test operation: After clearing the drain, restart the unit and monitor for leaks or recurring E9. If the error persists, the float switch or pump assembly likely needs replacement by a technician.
