Possible Causes

Open or shorted outdoor coil sensor (NTC), Sensor detached from outdoor coil, Damaged sensor cable, Faulty outdoor PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power at the outdoor disconnect or breaker before opening the outdoor unit.

  • Step 1 – Locate outdoor coil sensor: Remove the outdoor unit top or side panel as per Gree service instructions. The coil sensor is usually clipped to the condenser coil tubing.
  • Step 2 – Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped to the coil and has good thermal contact. Reattach if loose.
  • Step 3 – Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the outdoor PCB. Check for cuts, rodent damage, or loose connectors.
  • Step 4 – Replace sensor if needed: If the sensor is cracked or corroded, replace it with a Gree‑specified outdoor coil sensor.
  • Step 5 – Test and monitor: Restore power and test in HEAT mode. If F3 persists, the outdoor PCB may be faulty and require professional replacement.
