Possible Causes

Normal defrost cycle in heating mode, Outdoor coil heavily frosted requiring defrost, Low outdoor temperature causing extended preheat time

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Note: On many Gree heat pump models, H1 is an informational code indicating defrost or preheating, not a failure.

  • Step 1 – Wait for cycle completion: Allow 5–15 minutes for the defrost or preheat cycle to complete. The indoor fan may stop to prevent cold drafts.
  • Step 2 – Check outdoor unit: Confirm that the outdoor coil is frosted and that steam is released during defrost. This is normal.
  • Step 3 – Ensure proper drainage: Make sure meltwater can drain away from the outdoor unit to prevent ice buildup.
  • Step 4 – If H1 is constant and no heating: If H1 never clears and the unit does not heat, a defrost sensor or PCB issue may exist and should be checked by a technician.
