How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the disconnect before inspecting the outdoor unit.
- Step 1 – Inspect fan area: Remove any debris (sticks, leaves, plastic) from the fan guard and blades. Check that the blade is not bent.
- Step 2 – Check fan blade tightness: With power OFF, gently wiggle the fan blade on the motor shaft. Tighten the set screw if loose.
- Step 3 – Listen after restart: Restore power and briefly run the unit. If the noise is clearly from the fan, the motor or blade may need replacement.
- Step 4 – Compressor noise: If the noise comes from the compressor body and is very loud or metallic, shut the unit down and call a technician. The compressor or its mounting grommets may need replacement.
