Possible Causes

Condenser coil blocked by dust or debris, Outdoor fan motor failure or low speed, Overcharged refrigerant, Non-condensable gas in system

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch off the unit and isolate power at the breaker. Do not open the refrigerant circuit unless you are licensed to handle refrigerants.

  • Clean outdoor condenser coil: Remove leaves, plastic bags, and debris from the outdoor unit. Use a soft brush or low-pressure water spray to clean the condenser fins from inside out. Do not bend fins.
  • Check outdoor fan operation: Restore power and briefly run the unit. Confirm the outdoor fan starts promptly and runs at normal speed. If the fan does not run or is very slow, disconnect power and inspect the fan motor wiring and capacitor (if fitted).
  • Ensure airflow clearance: Make sure there is at least 30–50 cm clearance around the outdoor unit and no hot air recirculation (e.g., unit installed in a closed balcony).
  • If E1 returns: The system may be overcharged or contaminated, or the high-pressure switch may be faulty. Contact a certified HVAC technician to check system pressures, recover/charge refrigerant, and test the high-pressure sensor.
