Possible Causes
Blocked or jammed indoor blower wheel, Dirty blower causing imbalance and overload, Faulty indoor fan motor, Faulty fan motor driver circuit on indoor PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker. Wait for the indoor fan to stop completely before working near it.
- Inspect blower wheel: Remove the front panel and filters. Use a flashlight to inspect the cross-flow fan (drum). Remove any foreign objects (plastic, paper, insects) carefully.
- Clean blower: If heavily dust-laden, use a soft brush and vacuum or a dedicated AC blower cleaning spray. Rotate the wheel by hand to ensure smooth movement.
- Check fan motor: Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely without grinding. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be failing and the motor should be replaced.
- If E8 persists: The indoor PCB fan driver or motor windings may be faulty. Replacement of the indoor fan motor or PCB is typically required by a technician.
