Heil air conditioner runs briefly then shuts down; thermostat or diagnostic LED indicates E2 high-pressure fault

Safety first: Shut off power at the outdoor disconnect before cleaning or working near the fan and coil. Do not connect gauges or adjust refrigerant charge unless you are EPA-certified.

• Step 1 – Clear airflow: Remove leaves, grass, and debris from the top and sides of the Heil condenser. Maintain at least 24 inches of clearance around the unit.
• Step 2 – Clean condenser coil: Remove the top grille/fan assembly carefully (wires still attached) and set it aside without straining the wires. Use a garden hose from the inside out to rinse dirt from the coil fins. Avoid high pressure that can bend fins.
• Step 3 – Check condenser fan: Restore power and observe the fan. If the compressor runs but the fan does not, or runs slowly, the fan motor or capacitor may be failing. Turn power back off and inspect the dual run capacitor for bulging or leaking; replace if defective.
• Step 4 – Reset high-pressure switch: Many Heil units have an automatic reset; after cooling and power cycling, the unit may restart. If the switch is manual reset, press the reset button (usually near the service panel) once power is off.
• Step 5 – Call a technician for charge issues: If E2 returns after cleaning and verifying fan operation, a professional must check refrigerant charge and system pressures.
