Possible Causes
Low airflow from dirty filter or blower issues, Low refrigerant charge, Faulty TXV, Closed or blocked supply/return vents
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the system OFF and set the fan to ON to thaw ice. Do not chip ice off the coil.
- Step 1 – Thaw completely: Allow several hours for all ice to melt. Place towels or a pan under the air handler if needed.
- Step 2 – Restore airflow: Replace filters, open all vents, and ensure interior doors are open for good circulation.
- Step 3 – Clean blower and coil: Clean dust from the blower wheel and evaporator coil.
- Step 4 – Technician check: If icing recurs, a technician must check refrigerant charge and TXV operation.
