Possible Causes
High blower speed setting, Undersized ductwork, Closed or restricted vents, Loose duct connections
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before adjusting blower speed taps or opening the air handler.
- Step 1 – Open vents: Ensure most supply and return vents are fully open to reduce velocity.
- Step 2 – Check filter: Use a less restrictive filter if an overly high MERV filter is causing noise.
- Step 3 – Adjust blower speed: Have a technician adjust the blower speed tap on the Heil air handler/furnace to a lower cooling speed if appropriate.
- Step 4 – Seal ducts: Seal loose joints with mastic or UL-181 tape to prevent whistling leaks.
